BrickStreet Insurance, a mutual company owned by its policyholders, has historic roots, having launched Jan. 1, 2006 as West Virginia's first private workers' compensation carrier.
Since then, BrickStreet has grown by expanding operations into other states and now is a regional workers' compensation carrier. BrickStreet currently writes business in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia as well as the District of Columbia.
Headquartered in Charleston, West Virginia, BrickStreet also has three regional offices located in Charlotte, North Carolina, Naperville, Illinois, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. With an A.M. Best rating of A- (Excellent) with a stable outlook, BrickStreet is one of the largest writers of workers' compensation coverage in the region.
In October 2016, BrickStreet announced the intent to affiliate through a joint venture with Motorists Mutual Insurance Co., and approval from all necessary regulatory agencies to do so was granted six months later. Organizational changes followed, with Greg Burton being named Executive Chairman of Motorists Insurance Group, Dave Kaufman being named to CEO of Motorists Insurance Group and T.J. Obrokta being names President and COO of Motorists Insurance Group.
Now a super-regional carrier ranked in the top 20 mutual companies in the United States, Motorists and BrickStreet include more than 1,600 associates, 10 offices writing in 29 states, premiums of nearly $1.2 billion, a surplus of nearly $1.55 billion and assets of $4.5 billion.
The group markets insurance solutions through more than 17,000 independent agents at more than 2,000 agencies in the Midwest, Northeast and South.
