West Virginia University's Bureau of Business and Economic Research recently completed a study on the positive economic impact BrickStreet Insurance had on the West Virginia economy during calendar year 2007. This is the last of four articles that highlight the research.
According to the study, the direct impact of claims payments (used to replace lost wages and pay for medical and legal costs) during 2007 was $162.1 million. The money spent by BrickStreet in these areas is then in turn spent by the claimants and others. This produces an additional $178 million of economic activity within the state, resulting in a total impact generating 2,000 jobs and $59.9 million in employee compensation.
Since 1948, the Bureau has presented reliable data, analysis and forecasts to the public and private sector. The Bureau's areas of research proficiency include economic development and impact studies, economic forecasting, industry studies, energy and environmental policy, benchmarking, the labor market, public finance, international studies, and tourism.
More thorough coverage of BrickStreet's economic impact study will be included in the next issue of InSide BrickStreet. The entire study can be found at www.brickstreet.com.
