InSide BrickStreet

All policyholders should soon receive a copy of the Summer 2008 issue of our quarterly magazine, InSide BrickStreet. The issue also has been posted to the publications area of our Web site, brickstreet.com.

This issue features one of our Government Team policyholders, the Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR). With more than 6,000 employees in 72 locations across the state, DHHR has made safety a daily priority, and because of this has earned a 50 percent reduction in their premium rate since initiating their workers' compensation management program. What would have been a $6 million annual premium is now $3 million – becoming not only a savings to the agency but to all the taxpayers of West Virginia.

According to Harriett Fitzgerald, director of DHHR's Office of Personnel Services, "with BrickStreet’s support and resources, and our data and internal professionals, we are taking a major, proactive step toward preventing injuries while at the same time getting ready to manage those injuries that do happen, before they occur."

Other articles in the magazine include:

  • Who Needs Workers' Compensation Insurance;
  • Good Design Makes a Difference;
  • The Big Bill – HB 4636;
  • A pull-out Reporting Injuries poster; and
  • A guest column by Allan McVey, Vice President / Agency Manager for BB&T Carson Insurance Services.
