Occupational Disease A disease incurred in the course of and resulting from employment. Occupational diseases are caused by exposure to hazardous conditions or situations in the workplace for a period of time sufficient to have caused the disease.
Occupational Pneumoconiosis A disease of the lungs caused by the inhalation of minute particles of dust over time during the course of employment. Black lung and asbestosis are the most common types of pneumoconiosis in West Virginia.
Occupational Pneumoconiosis Board A five-member panel of physicians that makes impairment determinations in occupational pneumoconiosis claims based on physical examinations and available medical evidence.
Office of Judges (OOJ) An office under the supervision of the Chief Administrative Law Judge that handles objections to claims adjusters’ decisions.
